Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice is a charity that we like to support and raise funds for as it is local and close to our hearts. We were the main sponsor for the third year running of the event hosted. We were given a stall at the event and therefore put together some fundraising activities. This included a mega raffle (with prizes donated by us) and we had a reverse steer bike built for the event. If anyone was capable of completing our obstacle course they could win an iPhone! In total, the event raised 6,000 pounds.

In return we received a plaque and are honorable members of the Mytholmroyd Station Partnership, attending annual community networking events and keeping the locals happy.

MPRO have recently supplied a number of working mobile phones to be used as live props in a new film. Tiber Films approached MPRO for the supply of mobile phones to be used by different characters in a new movie called "Catch me Daddy" which is being filmed in and around the West Yorkshire region. The film will have its first screening at next years Cannes Film Festival before general release across UK cinemas in 2014. MPRO supplied a number of different mobile devices, some old some newer to fit in with the period of the film and for each character from a father figure and his young daughter to a bounty hunter character. This is not the first time MPRO has supplied mobile phones to the film industry for use as props, in 2012 a number of phones were supplied to another film company to be used in a BBC TV drama. At the time we were not told the name of the drama they were to be used in, though were told it was a drama filmed in Bradford about some lottery winners, we now know this to be The Syndicate written by Kay Mellor and has been aired on BBC 1 over March and April 2013. MPRO are proud to be of service to the film industry with its range of mobile phones and hope to work with more film companies in future.

Handsets are collected free of charge and clients can choose to contribute to one of the companies adopted Charities from the purchase revenue. MPRO is a fantastic business for us to have in our portfolio as service is our business at CommsProvider so being able to offer a market leading repair service for mobile devices is a major advantage says Luke Hayes, CommsProvider Managing Partner. We are already one of only two Samsung Platinum Service Partners in the UK for Telephone Systems so to become an approved warranty centre for Samsung Smartphones is the perfect fit. Over the past 6 months we have doubled our staff numbers which reflects the upside of a recession since businesses look to make economies on communication bills and efficiencies in the way they work and we specialise in those areas. MPRO Managing Director Johann Shepherd who has been running mobile phone repair centres for 20 years commented The Samsung connection is very important which makes this tie up perfect synergy and our repair facilities can be extended further into the business sector with CommsProvider behind us. Obviously more and more businesses are adopting smart phone technology and this can lead to many benefits but often setting things up incorrectly creates problems and frustrations. MPRO team also specialise in helping businesses with limited I.T skills to set smartphones up and integrate them with office networks.

A new code of practice to stop stolen phones being sold to handset recycling companies is being developed by government, police and the mobile phone industry, Home Office Minister Alan Campbell announced today. Currently 90 per cent of handsets reported stolen in the UK are blocked within 48 hours of reporting. However phones blocked in this country can still be used abroad, and the recycling industry, which exports many handsets, potentially provides access to a new market for stolen goods. Industry figures estimate at least 100,000 handsets, with an average value of 25 pounds, which have been reported stolen to the police or blocked by their rightful owner are recycled each year. Now the Home Office, police and a range of phone recycling companies have established a forum to address the problem and are drawing up a code of best practice for mobile phone recyclers to stop stolen phones being re-used. Companies who sign up would agree to work closely with police and implement a range of safeguards, including checking handsets against the National Mobile Phone Register to see if they have been reported stolen or blocked. They would also provide details of any blocked handsets they are offered to police. Those who sign up to the code will be endorsed by industry so consumers can have confidence in the company they are dealing with. The code would be monitored to ensure they are being adhered to and sanctions would be taken against companies who fail to maintain it. Home Office Minister Alan Campbell said: Working with the private sector has already produced some positive results in the fight against mobile phone crime and both government and industry are determined to see that continue. By blocking 90 per cent of handsets within 48 hours we are already reducing the incentive for thieves to steal phones and this latest initiative will make it even less profitable for criminals. I would like to thank those recyclers who are working with us to develop this new code of practice and would urge other companies to join this forum. Jack Wraith, chairman of the Mobile Industry Crime Action Forum, said; The industry welcomes this very important initiative on the part of the recyclers as it not only closes off an avenue used by criminals to gain from theft of mobile phones it also demonstrates that those recyclers who have signed up to the scheme are serious in their efforts to support the continuing battle against mobile phone theft.
Recycled mobile phones are now helping to bring in funds for the Oxenhope Sue Ryder Care hospice. The Mobile Phone Recycling Organisation is giving 3 to the cause for every handset it receives. A further 2 will be given for any phone that can be reconditioned and sold on. And if the phone is relatively new, it could be worth up to 200 with the difference going to the donator. MPRO Managing director Johann Shepherd said: This is an easy and environmentally friendly way to dispose of your old phone and turn it in to money for yourself as well as doing your bit for a very worthy local charity. MPRO formed two years ago was originally based in Keighley, but moved to Shipley late last year. It has recycled more than 5,000 mobile phones since 2007 and hopes to double that amount by the end of this year. Manorlands community fundraiser Matthew Binns said: I hope this new partnership will generate much needed funds for the hospice. It will cost 2 million to run all the services we offer this year and we rely on 1.2 million of this being in voluntary contributions and through schemes like this. I encourage everyone to recycle their old mobile phones by sending them to MPRO.
